Yamla Pagla Deewana

Deols all the way

The much awaited Yamla Pagla is released with much fanafre. Yamla Pagla Deewana is about the Deol trio. It`s not every day that a famous father-sons team plays real-life roles on screen .And the Deols do exceedingly well. Each has a definitive role. Dharmendra`s characterisation of a lovable rogue is a bit wonky even as he lustily hits on foreign tourists calling them "meri Madonna". But his charm is still undiluted and untouched by age.

Sunny Deol is in form especially in the superbly choreographed action scenes. These scenes, reminiscent of Rajnikanth-style action, have Sunny being hit with a metal rod and the rod breaking, and pots being flung at him which he breaks one-by-one.When the Deols come together in a film that spoofs the best of their cinematic work, expect an unfettered celebration of dum, daru, dileri and a lot of dhamaal thrown in to boot. Hand pumps are not uprooted, nor maudlin suicide speeches actually given from atop water tanks. But there are moments of self-spoofs aplenty that bring a somewhat cracked grin to your lips.

Bobby has the comedic and romantic portions where he performs uninhibitedly. Kulraj Randhawa makes a confident debut and is a talent to look out for.

Director Samir karnik`s Yamla Pagla Deewana is a film that, if made with restraint and a lot of editing, might have been a laugh riot. As it is, it is an overlong, tiresome watch, with the Garam Dharam taking the back seat and the young gun Bobby Deol leading the show.

So it’s tragic that most of YPD hinges on an actor who yet has to give one memorable cinematic moment, while Sunny, who comes up with the best performance of the trio, is relegated to being a second fiddle, flexing muscles and helping the young bro in love.

Dharam Singh (Dharmendra) and Gajodhar Singh (Bobby Deol) are two con men in Banaras. Paramveer (Sunny Deol) is an NRI from Canada who comes to Banaras to find his long lost brother and father, the aforementioned swindlers. Together the trio make quite a team - Dharam and Gajodhar going about their con games with an added muscle power from the whisky guzzler of a Jat from Canada.

It’s an unabashed celebration of everything Punjabi and you’d be a twit to expect some refined humour here. Crass jokes fly thick and fast. Some work, many don’t. But when you see the three Deols grooving to Dharmendra’s signature dance from the ‘Main Jat Yamla Pagla Deewana’ song from the 1975 comedy Pratigya, some of your money is sure vasool-ed.

Priyanka goes from I-T department’s ambassador to suspect

Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra whose premises were searched by the Income Tax department had only last year starred in a short promotional film aimed to spread the message of tax compliance. Chopra along with Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar had featured in a 20-minute-long documentary by the I-T department which was unveiled by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on July 24 in New Delhi to mark the first ever ‘Income Tax Day’.
The actors in the film had appealed to the public to pay their taxes diligently and honestly.
In an interesting twist of fate, I-T sleuths swooped upon Chopra’s apartment in suburban Versova while the residence of her father, Ashok Chopra, in suburban Lokhandwala, was also raided besides the premises of the actor’s secretary Chand Mishra.
The searches were conducted yesterday morning as the department suspected tax evasion on brand endorsements, offshore assignments and private appearances by the actor who has starred in films like Dostana, Anjaana Ajaani, Kaminey.
I-T officers are now checking her income received from advertisements, foreign assignments and guest appearances.
“The I-T department had approached the actors including Chopra for the documentary as they are considered youth icons and Aamir (Khan) and Akshay (Kumar) were amongst the top tax payers in the film industry,” a senior I-T officer said.
But, when it comes to professional duties, the department will conduct inquiries against anyone and everyone, the officer added.
Another actor Katrina Kaif was also covered in  searches.

Anushka spits on Akshay’s face

Bollywood Actress Anushka Sharma seems to be in the happiest phase of her life. The pretty lady is quite satisfied with the way her filmy career and personal life are shaping up. Anushka who started her Bollywood journey with King Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, didn’t leave that great an impression on the audience in Badmaash Company withShahid Kapoor .
But her last film, Band Baaja Baaraat covered up for all the complaints and past failures and turned out to be the best out of all the films that she has done so far. Anushka who has just completed her film Patiala House with Akshay Kumar is waiting for its release in February. The actress had a great time shooting with the one and only Khiladi, but also admits to have been quite nervous on her first day.
She says, “Working with Akshay Kumar was a dream come true experience. But the first day I reached the shoot, we had a scene where I was told to spit on his face. It was my first day and I was anyway quite nervous and he (Akshay) kept saying ‘thook thook, spit on my face’. That really got me stunned.” Akshay really wanted to bring out the best from his actress, even if it was something as gross as spitting. Anushka says, “Though I was nervous, Akshay made it easy and comfortable and the shot went smoothly.” Akshay has always maintained a good rapport with all the newcomer actresses, so is the beautiful Anushka Sharma going to replace the sexy Kat! Only time can tell kiska bajega band aur kiski niklegi baaraat

Govinda’s daughter Narmmadaa Ahuja ready to act

It seems Bollywood has become all about Generation Next. Last year Shatrughan’s buxom daughter Sonakshi made a splash in Dabangg. This year may well be the turn of Govinda’s little girl Narmmadaa Ahuja, who is all set to star in as many as three films – a love story, a romantic comedy and a pure comedy. But the star kid is tightlipped about her debut project. All she will say is a cool and correct “I’m happy to work with a well known production house in this romantic comedy”. And what about her leading man in the film? “My co-star is not a newcomer. I can’t reveal any other detail,” says a reticent Ahuja, who has studied action at the Kishore Namit Kapoor Institute in Mukmbai and the London Film Institute. That’s all very well. But does Bollywood Actor Govinda’s gudiya have daddy’s comic gene intact? We can’t wait to find out.
